Description

Tundish working lining castable (tundish dry mix) is a high-magnesia unshaped refractory made from fused and high-purity sintered magnesia aggregates with carbon-containing or carbon-free binder systems. It is installed by dry vibrating: the dry mix is placed between the permanent lining and a former, vibrated to compact, then baked into a dense working lining. With high refractoriness, excellent resistance to molten steel erosion and scouring, easy stripping and no steel adhesion, it is the mainstream material for continuous casting tundish working linings, widely used in long-life and quick-change tundish processes.

Key Features

  • High-purity magnesia: MgO ≥ 90%, strong resistance to basic slag and molten steel.
  • Dry vibrating installation: minimal water, fast installation with former, suitable for quick on-line relining.
  • Rapid baking: short baking time and fast heating, improving tundish turnover.
  • Good scouring resistance: dense sintered layer withstands molten steel flow.
  • Easy stripping: working lining is easy to clean and remove, reducing maintenance labour.
  • Carbon / carbon-free options: binder system selected by steel grade (e.g. low-carbon and clean steel).

Typical Applications

  • Dry vibrating working lining of continuous casting tundishes.
  • Tundish impact zone, dam/weir zone and bottom working layer.
  • Long-life and quick-change tundish processes.
  • Magnesia-calcia dry mix for low-carbon and clean steel.
  • On-line repair and complete replacement of tundish working lining.

FAQs

What is the difference between tundish dry mix and wet castable?

Dry mix is installed by dry vibrating with very little water, bakes fast and strips easily, suiting quick-turnaround tundish processes; wet castable requires longer curing and baking, and is often used for permanent lining or when time allows.

How to choose carbon or carbon-free tundish material?

For low-carbon and clean steel, choose carbon-free (magnesia / magnesia-calcia) system to avoid carbon pickup; for ordinary steel grades, carbon-containing system offers better erosion resistance.

How long does a dry-mix working lining last?

Depending on tundish capacity, steel grade and baking practice, a conventional working lining can serve several to over ten heats; combined with flow control devices, life can be further extended.

Can it be customized for my tundish size?

Yes. Henan Songrui New Refractory Materials Co., Ltd. provides formulations and installation guidance by tundish capacity, shape and steel grade.
