Tundish coating material is a high-magnesia unshaped refractory made from quality magnesia and magnesia-calcia sand, blended with phosphate composite binders, plasticizers and fibers. It is applied by trowelling or spraying onto the tundish permanent lining surface to form a working lining of certain thickness. Compared with wet casting and dry vibrating mixes, coating material offers faster installation, shorter curing and baking cycles, and is particularly suitable for quick-turnaround tundish relining and on-line repair, while also purifying steel and providing thermal insulation.
Coating material suits quick relining, local repair and irregular parts, with fast installation and good adhesion; dry mix suits integral working lining by dry vibrating with longer life. They are often used together.
