Cement Rotary Kiln Nose Precast Protection

Frequent thermal shocks caused nose castable spalling. High-alumina/corundum precast blocks replaced cast-in-place lining, lifting life by about 40% and extending the maintenance cycle from 6 to 9 months.

1Challenge

The kiln nose area suffered severe temperature swings and secondary-air erosion. Cast-in-place castable spalled and broke away within 3–4 months, forcing frequent repairs and hurting clinker output.

2Solution

Blocks were designed to the kiln nose geometry using high-alumina/corundum precast units with integrated anchors, cured and pre-fired in-plant. Units were hoisted as a complete ring and joints packed with high-performance repair mix, minimising wet work on site.

3Result

Nose life improved by about 40% and the maintenance cycle extended from 6 to 9 months. On-site repair time dropped from 7 to 3 days, raising annual kiln availability.
