Low-cement castables (LCC) typically contain 1%–2.5% CaO and ultra-low-cement castables (ULCC) 0.2%–1%. Both feature low water demand, high density and high-temperature performance far beyond conventional high-alumina cement castables.
The lower the binder content, the fewer low-melting phases, yielding better hot strength, slag resistance and erosion resistance, plus lower porosity and stronger penetration resistance. The trade-off is a shorter working time and higher sensitivity to water addition, demanding disciplined placement.
In practice, LCC is the workhorse for ladles, troughs and reheating furnaces; ULCC suits higher temperatures and harsher slag attack, such as refining ladies and smelter slag lines. Where mixing conditions are limited, self-flow low-cement grades fill forms without vibration.
Beyond CaO content, match the aggregate system and service temperature. Every Songrui batch ships with test data, and recommended formulas are available per your service conditions.
